CHARACTER STUFF
(TRIGGER WARNING: Verbal/Physical Abuse)
(SPOILER WARNING: This contains some spoilers for the short story “Bullets” - included in Last Stand of the Wreckers. No spoilers for the comic itself.)
Name: Rowan Marinna
Aliases: Rotorstorm
Canon: Transformers IDW
Role: Hero
Species: Human
Gender: Female
Age: Mid 20’s
Appearance: http://38.media.tumblr.com/d996122785abafa360158d91788b208f/tumblr_mvm33oJA5k1qc7pgwo1_1280.jpg (The design was made by my very talented friend, http://nonvieta.tumblr.com)
Origin story:
Regular old school never did all that much for Rowan; often finding herself bored with classes and wishing for a different kind of life. As a child she had dreams of flying - dreams that would eventually grow into a love for aircraft.
She left home at a fairly young age to join a flight school. Piloting seemed to come naturally to her – she was quick to pick up on controls and excelled in her classes. But her highly praised skills didn’t always attract the right sort of attention, the worst being from one of her instructors. This instructor would support her in a public setting only to belittle her in private. Rowan would always laugh it off, which only seemed to worsen things between them. Soon, the instructor’s verbal assaults became increasingly brutal, eventually evolving into unprovoked physical attacks.
Rowan never spoke of the abuse to anyone, even long after they parted ways. None of this ever appeared to be an outward detriment to her abilities as a pilot. She went on to join the Air Force after graduating; from then on preferring to be addressed by her call sign, Rotorstorm. She became a honed aerial strategist; often taking command of missions and saving many lives throughout her career.
Eventually, her skills would catch CONDOR’s attention. When she received the invitation to join, it didn’t take long for her to accept - one major factor in her decision being the offer of a newer prototype model of helicopter. As of now, she’s still a rather recent addition to the organization, and has taken part in several rescue, reconnaissance, and combat operations.
Personality:
At first glance, Rotorstorm is an egotistical attention-seeker. She always has to be the life of the party; the first to make jokes. She’s personable, quick-witted, and on the surface she’s actually pretty popular with most of her peers.
However, this arrogant appearance is really little more than a front she puts on. Her days from flight school often aren’t far from her mind; her instructor’s constant berating of her own worth has plagued her with self-doubt and a belief that she is ultimately unremarkable and useless. If she feels threatened, her natural reaction is to make light of the situation. Sudden physical contact will make her freeze up. Even her popularity doesn’t go as far as it seems, as she never goes the extra mile to open up and make real friends. The only topic she seems to willingly take seriously is recalling the battles she witnessed and took part in.
Despite all the false confidence, she always follows through with everything she says she’ll do and is both a capable pilot and strategist. She’s enthusiastic about all types of aircraft - becoming easily attached to the helicopters she pilots. Flying’s become second-nature to her, so much so that she feels her machines are an extension of herself.
Differences from canon: She’s human! And the original character also used male pronouns. All of her backstory is similarly structured to what it was in canon, just in a different setting. No equivalent of “Last Stand of the Wreckers” has occurred, and she has no previous relation to any of the Cybertronians. The helicopter she pilots is also based off the character’s original alt. mode.
Power level: D on her own, B when she’s behind the controls of her helicopter.
Powers: She possesses basic combat skills and is fairly adept at wielding handguns. But it’s her piloting skills that really shine – she’s capable behind fighter jets, but specializes in helicopters. Her own personal copter is a newer prototype model with enhanced speed and mobility; it’s good for aerial maneuvering (or showing off a few tricks) and quick to respond to commands. It’s always equipped with 4 missiles at the start of a mission, and other weapons are often added/removed or modified.
Team affiliation: CONDOR
First person sample: Various Phone Messages:
1. “Goooooood morning to you, boss! Just listen to me for a sec, ok? And let me finish before you do anything. I know this is going to be tough to hear, but I’m going to need today off. I know, I know…how will you make it through the day without me? Well you’re going to have to get your act together sometime, right? Why not now? I mean…you never know when a regular disaster will strike. Destiny could call me away for good, and then what would you do? Anyway, worry not. I shouldn’t be away for more than a day. See ya around! Just, you know. Not today.”
2. “Hey….so you know how I said just one day? Well. I think we both know that I deserve more than that. And look at me; I was even nice enough to give you more of a heads up this time! Anyway just keep on keeping. I’ll be rooting for you.”
3. “You there? We need to talk. I know you like coming up with nicknames for people and everything…and I know my call sign is a bit of a mouthful…but stop calling me ‘Storm’, ok? It’s just too X-men for me.”
